Welllllllllllllllllllll... after 7 months in the wilderness learning the new sport of ' One Kneedle Crochet' and whilst suffering from acne of the left buttock.. 'William Sevone' geek has put pen to paper once again... much to the disappointment of many (who cheerfully thought he may have 'passed away').

Wellll.... its been forty years since that first (line) dance in 1968... and what do I have for the 'anniversary'????....

For those who know of my previous dances (the only way of knowing 'em is by doing them) the style and steps will come as no suprise as I have used them a few times over the years. The music is a different 'kettle of fish'.

I have used (what they call today) 'funky' type music before (some time before it became popular with the known choreographers) but this is more 'heavy'.

The essence of the dance is 'Stepping' (hence the title) and therefore a little bit of attitude is required. These are NOT 'young dancers only' steps... lets put it this way... if I can do 'em (with two shot up knees and a totally buggered ankle... plus my age..lol) only those in wheelchairs should have any kind of problem.

Choreographed to:- "Shake" (118 bpm)... Ying Yang Twins feat: Pitbull ("United States of Atlanta")
Two Wall Line Dance:- 32count - Intermediate
Choreographers note:- Please remember that the hops/bounces are not ‘Moon hops’ - keep them short and together. Add as much or as little of your own styling as you wish - feel the music.
Always remember - 'The beat may reach your feet - but the rhythm should electrify your soul'.
Dance starts with the drums and main vocals (approx 21s into music) feet slightly apart, weight on the left.

4x Diagonal Step. Swing Left. Swing Right. Behind. 3/4 Right (9:00)

1 – 2 (with light stomp) Step right diagonally right. Step left diagonally left.
3 – 4 (with light stomp) Step right diagonally right. Step left diagonally left.
5 – 6 Hitch/swing right foot across left leg. Swing right foot to right side.
7 – 8 Step right behind left. Turn ¾ right (weight on right) (9)
Style note: 5: Slap/touch foot with left hand. 6: Slap/touch foot with right hand.

Fwd. 2x Hip Bump. Together. Fwd. 2x Hip Bump. 1/2 Left Fwd. 2x Diagonal Step (3:00)
9& 10 (upper body turned right with hands at sides of head) Step fwd onto left & bump hips. Bump hips.
11 (lowering hands & upper body facing fwd) Touch left foot next to right.
12& 13 (upper body turned right with hands at sides of head) Step fwd onto left & bump hips. Bump hips.
14 (lowering hands & upper body facing fwd) Turn ½ left & step forward onto left (3).
15 – 16 (with light stomp) Step right diagonally right. Step left diagonally left.
Dance note:Counts 9&-12&: The action (body position) is likened to ‘putting a shoulder to a door’.
The lead foot is forward, the head and shoulders (upper body) are turned right angles to the lead foot. The hip bumps are in line with the lead foot-to the ‘side’.
There is NO full body (1/4) turn (to the right).


1/2 Right Bounce. 1/2 Left Bounce. 1/4 Left Rock. Recover. Bwd Bounce with Sweeps (12:00)
17& 18 (hitching right) Hop/bounce ½ right – count 18 step right next to left: Hop-Hop-Step (9).
19& 20 (hitching left) Hop/bounce ½ left – count 20 step left next to right: Hop-Hop-Step (3).
21 – 22 Turn ¼ left & rock forward onto right (12). Recover onto left.
23& 24 (sweeping right out then in) Hop/bounce backward on left – count 24 step right backward.
25& 26 (sweeping left out then in) Hop/bounce backward on right – count 26 step left backward.
Style note: (optional) 17-20: Criss-crossing arms with each ‘bounce’ will add flavour to the dance.

1/2 Right Fwd. Fwd. 3x Hitch Run. Bwd. ‘On Your Marks’ or Option (6:00)
27 – 28 Turn ½ right & (short) step forward onto right (6). (short) Step forward onto left.
29& 30 (hitching knees high) Step forward onto right, step backward onto left, step backward onto right.
31 – 32 (upper body leaning slightly forward) Step backward onto left foot
(with stretched leg) Touch right toe backward & touch left fingers forward to floor.
Option: 31: Step bwd onto left. 32: Hitch right & throw arms bwd (over the head).

Interestingly....

One particular Instructor sent me an email two weeks ago stating that the bouncing half turns - even just one of them - have proved very difficult for her and her students to perform and because of this she cannot teach the dance proper.

Ok, no problems there... though that part of the dance is one of the easiest to do as its quite natural flowing... but ...heck OK.

Then I read a review from the same Instructor yesterday morning 'praising' the very same move (abiet slower) and claiming it to be 'the fun part of the dance'... thing was ... it WASN'T the dance STEPPIN LINE... but the latest from Nev & Julie (Just Cant Stop). There is a clip of the dance on youtube.
And Instructors always know whats best for them and their dancers.

Ahhh well... such is life I suppose and as its a quite common move (though not in Linedancing), maybe not quite deja vu - as visions of two other dances come to mind one of which is 'Shake That Thing Miss Miss' http://youtube.com/watch?v=SUz2l9gJGIs&feature=related

Anyway... if anyone else tried the dance (Steppin Line) and found the bouncing turns too difficult... you can always do the other dance...lol
