PostSubject: Time to rattle yer spurs to some pure..... rap???   Mon Jan 21, 2008 9:51 pm

Hi,

Just a couple of lighthearted - but so very true - observations

Sometimes it’s a funny old world though isn’t it, regarding this pop vs country thing. I mean you get photographs of Choreographers with all the Western trimmings (hat/waistcoat etc) in the LD where they have just written a dance to for example something like Atomic Kitten or Barry White or anything soooo Non Country… seems a little out of place and contradictory, especially when a choreographer purports to 'dance to only country music' a couple of weeks before. I suppose its also like a DJ at a Linedance venue in full western regalia playing 90 % chart music (‘pop’) for most of the evening.

I suppose it just sometimes happens that way… doesn’t it.?

Mind you there ARE some other funny scenario’s such as at a very high profile venue the DJ in Hat etc was playing a particular very ‘poppy’ type tune and whilst in the middle of this piece of music decides to utter ‘Yahoooo’ down the microphone. It had all those around me roaring with laughter, with some just sitting there – gobsmacked. Surprisingly enough (or maybe not) THAT was his only ‘western style’ utterance all day.

I’m NOT getting at any person, dance or whatever… it’s observations that a lot of people have been witness to….and had a ‘smile’ about.

****************************************************
As a DJ, I used to love it when some little charmer would beckon you over with a ‘waggle of their finger’ or even worse a ‘whistle’ to which (after I casually sauntered over to them) I would say to them ‘Forget the formalities – just call me Rover’. They would just look a little confused… which wasn’t all that suprising.
Anyway, once they had my undivided attention they would request.. ‘Hey, Mate.. you got any dance music or what’. My very simple reply (‘cos I am a really simple person deep down) would be something like … ‘can you give me an example of what you mean by ‘dance music’.. is it anything like the music which all these people around you are dancing to ’… 9 times out of 10 they would reply, ‘Nah, not this c**p, I mean stuff you can dance to’. To which I would again put my question to them. Invariably they give up and walk back to their table telling their mates that the DJ needs to see a Taxidermist. Ahhhh bless ‘em all.... I suppose in context one could look at this and reflect on the Mainline-Newline thingy.
