| In my opinon I think the guy who wrote that dance is a loser! he should get over it for gods sake - its a daft little dance made up of THE most basic of steps in linedancing - a couple of grapevines and a bit of walking mostly!!!
jeeeeeeeeeeeez look at the problems in the world and put it all back into perspective where it belongs!!
wheres that angry smiley??
*looks for him!!
couldnt find him - the head banging one will have to do!!!
aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!
life is toooooooooooooo damned short to be so up your own backside over a stupid line dance for so long!!!
pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffff!!!
*runs out of steam......
rant over |

| Hi,..
As I said on another thread (bit like Deja Vu this... )... "From what I understand and have read (I don't read the Dail Mail) its nothing to do with calling peoples names etc.. its more to do with if what someone says causes hardship (financial or other??) to another person."
Its just been pointed out to me about 3 minutes ago of another case.
In defence of the dance The Electric Slide... yes Julie is quite correct.. the steps are very very basic (that is if you do the dance that is NOT on ric Silver's website).. but (forget when the dance was supposed to have been choreographed) in the 'early' days of this type of dancing - and I'm talking pre 1992 here - then the majority of dances (which were very few and far between) were kiddy stuff compared with todays (so called) beginner dances. How many dancers out there were doing this kind of dance in 1991??... 1992??...93??..94??.....
Gawwwd... I remember when everyone was going mad for The Madison.. I remember my Mother (who was really heavy into Ballroom) practicing for ages... YE GAWWWD... it was a basic SIX STEP dance.. ... so, please don't poke fun at a dance simply because it's 'kiddy stuff' simple. I know a good number of very experienced dancers who get totally muxed ip with One Step Forward.
The original Bus Stop is another kiddy stuff simple dance or 30 Something (but ya gotta bend your knees to that one) which was/is a 16 count 2 wall. You could practice Origami whilst doing the dances. But they are still good stepping blocks to teach Novice dancers. |

Now is it me...or does it appear that he cannot or has extreme diffulty in completing the turns. For someone who is campaiging for his recognition it does seem a little strange - maybe he has suddenly aquired a medical reason. Who knows |

| Hiya,
In his defence.. I 'think' the picture has been compressed slightly... but I wouldn't stake my life on it... those turns get to look worse the more times I see 'em. And the kids 'jumping the gun' on the second vine... had to smile at that. |

lol!
we dance the electric slide to sex bomb by tom jones - or for my older ladies and gents i use I feel lucky, its quite a cool dance if you do it to 'you need a man around here'
funny that - you can put a really simple beginner dance to a cool piece of music and it changes the feel instantly..
for instance!
the flobie slide - to the stripper from the full monty - always a good laugh
cowboy strutt - to mr mom! fab! we love it anyway!
strollalong cha cha to the music for shakatak - ciega sodo thingy!! my lot love it still... or to something stupid by robbie williams - ahhhh its lovely!
cowboy charleston to the miller magic mix - i like that cos i get time to go to the loo whilst they dance it

| Trying to remember back when we first danced (in the early 80's) to The Electric Boogie' by Marcia Griffiths... I can remember the places/clubs and some of the people... but for the life of me remember ever seeing the dance 'The Electric' or 'The Electric Slide' being done anywhere to it. That is not until around 1992/3 in Ozbodland.
I seem to recall a dance mag doing an interview with Ric Silver - and he came across to the staff there as very convincing. Maybe they should have delphed a bit more into it. Who knows.
Similar to the dance the Macarena... where credit is given to a Flemenco dance instructress (Mia Frye) from Venezuala for choreographing the dance in 1996. Talk about taking credit for something they havent done... The same steps/moves for this dance were doing the rounds in the 1970’s and usually to ‘The Locomotion’ (Little Eva). As a DJ during that period (before and after) I saw the dance performed at least once a week. In 1989 I even video’d my own daughter (aged 8 at the time) doing the exact same dance (but this time to Kylie Minogue’s version). |

| Morning Mike,
do you have that link to the 1960's videos of black dancers in the US 'line dancing'?
lets blow this line dancing started with the cowboys theory out of the water for once and for all shall we
truth be known - all line dancing is really is a mongrel dance form made up of steps nicked from every other dance form isnt it?
how cool is that!? its what makes it THE best dance form there is in my opinion.
i tried salsa classes - after 4 weeks i was zzzzzzzzing my way through the lessons - i asked them what we were going to learn next even!
hope you can find that website for us to look at Mike......*waits.....

| Lisa... thats wickedly funny
I do recall the tv series called SOULTRAIN (it was shown in the UK in the 1990's?) which started life in the early 1970's in the USA. I certainly recall the thing about The Bus Stop being the 'first' (?) modern day line dance. I also see that the modern day version of the dance is now either 2 or 4 wall - though when it first came out.. it was only a single (1) wall dance. All dances in the early days (1970's) followed the 'artist on stage' pattern.. one vanilla and always end facing the audience. There was certainly one dance that 'bucked the trend' ... and that came out a few years before 'The Bus Stop'. Somewhere, in the US tv archives there must be a clip of the dance (The Bus Stop) when it was shown on US Soultrain. I do recall it being shown on the UK version as 'early footage'.
I also recall a particular photograph of 'African-Americans' (as they now like to be called) being used to highlight 'linedancing in the 1960's'. To be totally honest Ihave always had doubts about that photograph. That row of people could have been doing anything also looking at the style of the clothes it seemed more like it came from the 1970's.
I don't have any video footage of Linedancing from the 1960's (link or other).
I believe now that the vast majority of people involved in Linedancing now realise that 'cowboys did not start the ball rolling'. But at the time it suited it's (the Americans) purpose for publicity sake to start and keep up the pretence. |
